The camp situated in the Maasai Mara, bordering the Serengeti and Loliondo reserves in an untouched exclusive concession guaranteeing privacy and an abundance of wildlife. Cottars 1920’s Camp is a good camp to see the migration as it enters and exits the Masai Mara – between July and October. Cottars 1920’s Camp is an exclusive and private concession between the Masai Mara, Serengeti National Park and Loliondo Game Reserve in Kenya where a few Purko Masai clans roam.
Registered in 1919 by Charles Cottar, the safari company is the oldest of its kind in Africa and has been passed from generation to generation. The camp has a 1920’s feel and offers the discerning client luxury, romance, professional guiding, adventure and elegance reminiscent of the golden era.

s up to 22 guests in authentic white canvas tents, which are spacious and luxuriously furnished Incorporating original safari antiques from the `20`s, The camp also has private en suite dressing rooms, bathrooms with showers and flushing toilets , withe main bedroom having an outdoor verandah. Also available and separate from the main camp are 4 family tents holding four guests per tent.
From the chairs at the front of your tent you can enjoy the fine views across the plains. The camp is run with a good sense of style and the standard of food and service is excellent.

Activities at Cottar’s 1920s Safari Camp
Guest activities include game drives guided by Calvin Cottar or guides of equal professional standard in either state of the art modern four wheel drive cars, in our authentic, old wooden car or in our oxen pulled wagon. Alternatively, a tented reading room with an extensive array of African and contemporary books and magazines will allow those who wish to while away an afternoon to rest and view the most splendid panorama.
Walking and bird-shooting safaris are also available at the camp on request. As the concession area is outside the game parks, guided walks and night drives are allowed and highly recommended. By walking, guests can get that much closer to nature, and if an opportunity to track wild game presents itself, trained trackers will take guests even closer still.
