Charter Flight from Nairobi Wilson Airport straight into Rusinga Island. On arrival you will be met by the Lodge’s hosts. Check-in and enjoy Lunch. Rusinga Island lodge has rich history that dates back to the 19th century, the Rusinga Island lodge is a well manicured haven and check-point for travellers at large. Located on Rusinga Island and surrounded by Lake Victoria- the world’s second largest fresh water lake, the lodge is tranquil a vacation getaway that’s merely 80 miles away from the Masai Mara National Reserve.

Rusinga Island Lodge forms a spectacular oasis beside the shimmering waters of lake Victoria, with a profusion of bright flowers and towering fig trees surrounding soft velvet lawns. Lake Victoria in Kisumu is a magnet for a variety of birdlife, and giant monitor lizards and otters abound in the neighbouring islands.
A full day in Rusinga Island Lodge. Choose any of the included activities; Boat Trips, Fishing, Mountain Biking, Sundowners, Guided Bird Walks, Visit to Fishing Village & Archeological Site etc. Bird-life around Rusinga is spectacular, encouraging even the most reluctant birder. From stately fish eagles (which nest within the grounds) and elusive double-toothed barbets to tiny iridescent sunbirds and arrow-fast kingfishers, Rusinga truly is a bird-lover’s paradise.
Rusinga’s grounds, with its exotic trees, are haven for a myriad of bird species – many of which are unique to this small corner of Kenya and are home to more than 369 species of local and migratory birds, many not found elsewhere in Kenya. These spacious grounds offer a safe environment for children to release energy and the more active to catch up on exercise.
Troll for enormous Nile perch along the shores and in the shallow waters of Lake Victoria or cast for tilapia at sunset from the jetty. Both fish make delicious eating and the kitchen is always on standby to cook your catch of the day!
Rusinga Island lodge holds the record for Nile perch – which can weigh up to 300lbs.
There are 6 well-equipped fishing boats crewed by experienced and good-humored boat Captains to give you the best chance of catching ‘the big one.’

Breakfast and then depart with your Chartered flight to Wilson Airport, Nairobi.
NB: The lodge or Island accessed by private air charter or by road. The nearest scheduled flight points are the Masai Mara or Kisumu. From Kisumu it’s an interesting 3-hour drive and ferry ride to the lodge. From the Masai Mara a charter flight is recommended (35 minutes). The airstrip is directly adjacent to the lodge – a 2-minute walk away!) Rusinga’s renowned hospitality; delicious home-grown, home-cooked food; and indulgent accommodation combine to offer an ideal base from which to explore other areas of East Africa.
