On the floor of the Great Rift Valley, surrounded by wooded and bushy grassland, lies the beautiful Lake Nakuru National Park “The Bird Watchers’ Paradise”. Visitors can enjoy the wide ecological diversity and varied habitats that range from Lake Nakuru itself to the surrounding escarpment and picturesque ridges. is a full day trip to the rift Valley escarpment, 160kms from Nairobi. Lunch is taken before an afternoon game drive. On return journey there is an optional stop at Lake Naivasha where bird watchers will delight in the fanstastic array of birdlife among the acacia trees.

Lake Nakuru was the first site in Kenya to become protected under the RAMSAR Convention.  Apart from being one of the major feeding sites in Kenya for both lesser and greater flamingo, the park boasts another 450 species of birds and 56 species of mammals including white and black rhino, lion, giraffe, huge herds of buffalo, baboon, waterbuck, impala, warthog and many others. The park is also known to be one of the best places in Kenya to see leopards and it is the only place in the country to find the beautiful Rothchilds giraffe.


Lake Nakuru Day Trip Itinerary

0600hrs: Pick-up at different places depending on location.
0700hrs: Depart Nairobi for Nakuru National

Lake Nakuru is Kenya’s most visited National Park. Located 160km and 2½ hours from Nairobi, the park is an important Ramsar site and home to thousands of different bird species. The 188sq km Lake Nakuru National Park is the only KWS-administered game park that is fully enclosed. Once just a bird sanctuary, Lake Nakuru is now the best place in Kenya to see the highly protected black and white rhino. Among other animals found in the park include rhino, lion, leopard, flamingos, Egyptian geese, Waterbuck, giraffe, hyena, buffalo, baboons, velvet monkeys, gazelles.

0900hrs: Arrive at the Nakuru National park and proceed for a 2hr game drive.

Lake Nakuru has earned its fame as the home of the greatest bird spectacle in the world, a myriad of often more than a million pink flamingos that flock to feed at its shallow warm waters. The lake is dubbed “pink” due to the presence of millions of Greater and Lesser flamingoes among the wild big cats. You also spot the white and black Rhino, the Cape Buffaloes, and the Rothschild Giraffe as well as other smaller wildlife such as the Thompsons Gazelle.

1230hrs: Enjoy lunch at the Sarova Lion hill Lodge OR Lake Nakuru Lodge with ample time to relax.
1430hrs: Afternoon game drive commences and runs for 1 hr.
0530hrs: Depart Nakuru National park for Nairobi.
1830hrs: Arrive in Nairobi and be dropped off at a location of your choice within the city or at the airport. Don’t miss this opportunity to get up close with some of Kenya’s most amazing birds and other wildlife.
