An overland safari tour is the ultimate most authentic way to explore Africa, Overlanding in Africa is all about travelling by road in specially adapted expedition trucks and immersing yourself in the culture and environment of the countries you visit. Kenya’s capital Nairobi is usually the starting point for Overland trips as this offers travelers the option of combining a safari in Kenya with either gorilla trekking in Uganda or a safari to Tanzania’s famous Serengeti National Park or the Ngorongoro Crater. An overland truck is designed to take on whatever Africa can throw at them. The overland trucks are built high off the ground with big windows that can slide open all the way. This makes them perfect for the best views on a Safari.
Our overland safari trucks are custom built with comfortable seats and an ample leg room. Each overland safari truck carries everything needed for an adventure safari that includes a fully equipped kitchen with cooking equipment, a fridge, enough food, cutlery, pots, pans, gas stove, food and water supplies plus tents, camping gear , tables, chairs and spare parts.
Overland tours in Africa are usually camping and group participation trips: all group members assist with camp chores which include setting up tents, cooking and washing up. The safari trucks have secure lock up facilities for your bags and a safe for your valuables, a power inverter with a 220v – 240v socket to charge the phones, cameras, laptops and so on.
Overland safaris accommodation can vary from bush campsites in the middle of a wilderness to fully luxurious hotels and lodges; it usually depends with the choice of the group and what is available. On a normal overland adventures route, accommodation is usually in campsite with optional budget hotels and lodges on the way.
No need to bring your own tent – we provide two man dome tents and camping mattresses on our Camping tours. All you need to bring is your own sleeping bag. The tents are big enough for 3 clients, but only 2 clients of the same gender will share a tent. Most clients share a tent, but if you prefer to have you own tent, there is a single supplement option on most tours. You will have to provide your own sleeping bag, sleeping mat and a pillow if you need one. Most of the campsites are secure and have the basic facilities (hot shower, toilet and a washing area).
Meals on our overland camping safaris normally consist of breakfast (bread, spreads and cereals with a hot breakfast in between the days); an en-route self prepared sandwich lunch with all the ingredients provided; a cooked dinner in the evening, the dinner menus would vary from curries, stews, pastas, BBQ’s, down to African cuisines or any special request from the group (vegetarian, vegan or people with certain food allergies). Where fresh product is required, the menu may change due of the availability to the product in the area.
-Camping Equipment : The overland trucks carry all the tents, sleeping mats, pots and pans and all the luggage and lots of fresh water.
-Luggage: Please keep in mind that your tour will be of an adventurous nature and you will be travelling in an overland truck and luggage should NOT include any hard cover “Samsonite” style suitcases. Most of the overland trucks have lockers for the luggage. Locker sizes: 70cm deep x 40cm wide x 38cm high. Only a soft bag will fit in these lockers.
-Please note: If you bring a suitcase it might be left behind or you may be charged a fee to carry it if it does not fit into your locker. Contact us now for best prices on Kenya Overland Safaris and Tanzania Overland Truck Safaris
